Do Protests Work?
Yes.
I want to start by thanking all of you new subscribers. Apparently, my post about Amy Klobuchar’s votes on Trump nominees hit a nerve. As it should. Thank you to all who read it, shared it and commented on it.
I’ve been posting here on Substack for a while now but I don’t post nearly enough. I have been picking up the pace a bit given the historic times we are living in. There is a lot to cover.
Just yesterday we got see what courageous elected officials look like. Not surprisingly, they were from New Jersey.
Newark mayor, Ras Baraka (D) was arrested for trespassing at a private prison that will used to house immigrant detainees by ICE. He was joined there by three representative from New Jersey, Bonnie Watson Colman (D), Rob Menendez (D) and LaMonica McIver (D). They were there to inspect the facility, so they were not trespassing.
Every elected official needs to be doing more of this type of “good trouble”. They need to find their courage and use it against the Trump regime.
I get asked a lot if protests work and the answer is YES! Yes, they are working but maybe not in the way you think.
There have been a few instances where the Trump regime has backed down on certain controversial subjects after there has been a large public outcry.
But the hundreds and hundreds of protests that are being held in almost every city in America aren’t really for him. He doesn’t care if we are upset, angry, scared and worried. We may be protesting HIM but the protests are not for HIM.
They are for every person who sees that protest and wonders what is going on. Each person standing on a sidewalk, holding a sign up for passing traffic to see, is doing important work.
Because some of the people who are driving by might just be moveable. A seed may be planted. And the more protests they see, either on their commute home or posted on social media or on the news, might encourage them to pay closer attention to what Trump is doing. They may even be inspired to join a protest themselves.
We can’t slow down. We must continue every single day to call out the dangers of this regime.
Be sure to come out on June 14th for the next big national mobilization across the country. We are working hard planning the one for the Twin Cities, so stay tuned for details.
I’ll be traveling for the next two weeks so there probably won’t be any new posts.
Happy Mother’s Day!
Share only the truth,
Lisa

So true. I linked to this in a FB post just now, about my experience protesting with senior citizens in Roseville.
