Is she pandering to big donors? If not, she’s obviously unable to shift her paradigm. And that is not a quality of a good leader. Thank you for putting this summary together.

I think she wants to be Senate Majority Leader and thinks these votes will help her. She is letting her ambition get in the way of her constituents.

Well, this was effective. I knew, but I didn't actually know the details. Thanks for taking the time to lay this out so clearly.

Good to know. I was also excited when she initially entered the presidential race. This track record is very disappointing and shows voters a lot. Thanks.

I've been sending letters to her office since she's gone down this path. Here's her not surprising response:

"Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate hearing from you on this important matter, and I will keep your views in mind as relevant legislation and other decisions related to this issue come before the Senate.

I continue to be humbled to be your Senator, and one of the most important parts of my job is listening to the people of Minnesota. I am here in our nation’s capital to do the public’s business. I hope you will contact me again about matters of concern to you.

- Amy"

Same here. As well as Smith and Morrison on a variety of issues. I get the same response you noted above from Klobuchar, and something similar in tone from Morrison. Smith replies with a letter that is at least tailored to the issue and that someone, with Smith's blessing I'm sure, has put some thought into. I've decided to support Peggy Flanagan to replace Smith because IMHO, we need someone who is willing to give their all for our democracy.

I’ve never quite trusted her. I wish she was stepping aside instead of Senator Tina Smith.

Good heavens, this is the first time I've seen it laid out like this. What is Klobuchar thinking? I have e-mailed her and called her office on several occasions to ask her to stand against these godawful cabinet appointments, and she (her office, I mean) replied to my e-mail to thank me for my concerns. Now I feel like I have been railroaded. I was very impressed with Klobuchar at the Hands Off rally... but it seems like she's talking out of both sides of her mouth. Or am I mis-interpreting the situation?

No, you are not misinterpreting it. We can’t figure out what she thinks is gained by voting for all these people. One of my theories is that with Durbin retiring and Schumer’s unpopularity as leader, that she is angling for that position and wants to keep moderate Republicans (is that even a thing?) on her friends list. 🤔

Well, the situation with Schumer (and Durbin as well) is likely a factor... but that's a BS excuse to fall on her own sword.

I see you sort of answered my below question about her "strategy." But yeah, it's total BS.

I have also been a Klobuchar fan for many years. I’m a Minnesotan. But I’ve been disappointed with her nomination votes and just also her overall actions/ inaction. The only time She has anything much to say it’s in a staged setting, quite scripted. Her answers to my emails are also canned and unconvincing.

I was shocked that she was asked to speak at the rally. I knew her votes and don’t forget she has voted repeatedly to continue the genocide in Palestine and providing Israel with money and weapons. How she stood on a stage flanked with Palestinian flags and said she was on the side of freedom and justice , I do not know.

She is not representing me, and, I hope to god, not most Minnesotans. She needs to go.

As I point out in the essay above, it was much more complicated than that. We did not invite her to speak. We ultimately accepted her offer to speak because we felt that it would be good for the attendees to hear from her directly. We weren't sure what her reception would be and were kind of surprised that it seemed positive.

Right, I did read that you didn’t ask her to speak. I was glad to learn she had invited herself.

I was pretty surprised by her reception as well. Thank you for all you do.

All of this is why I can no longer support Klobuchar. “Business as Usual” should not be the rally cry. If you aren’t going to fight, we’ll find someone who will. And even though she may not agree, a lot of voters will remember what she did and how she voted come her next election.

Also, thanks for the post. It's nice to see all her votes. I know she always says these things are "strategic," but Smith votes differently, and I don't think she's in a different strategic position. Do you?

She voted no, but that was only after a crazy day of intense pressure from her constituents. Ezra Levin had posted that morning that he was hearing that she was a tentative‘yes’ on the CR. She was on his short list of Ds that might be flippable. Which in the end she was.

Also, hi Amy!
